For years, our community has been scattered without a dedicated church building to celebrate holy days or observe traditional services.
Without a church, children cannot receive Baptism on time, and believers cannot partake in the Holy Communion, the heart of our life.
We are striving to build a permanent home where our traditions are preserved, and our faith is strengthened for generations to come.
Twice a year, through priests sent by our mother church, the Holy Communion service is conducted with great reverence. These are the special times of the service:-
. The Feast of Debre Zeyit
. A day selected during the period of Lent.
During these times, the faithful repent and have the opportunity to receive the Holy Communion, as well as to partake in other sacraments of the Church.
A communal service of prayer, hymn singing, and Gospel teaching is offered. This practice allows the faithful to come together at the end of the week to worship their Creator in unity and to engage in prayer.
On the 21st day of each month, or on the first Sunday following the 21st, the feast of Our Lady is celebrated with a special liturgical program by the community.
In addition to the above-mentioned Holy Communion services, the following major annual feasts are celebrated by the faithful with collective participation and great reverence:
• Nativity: The Feast of the Birth of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ is celebrated every year on December 29.
• Baptism (Timkat): The Feast of the Baptism of our Lord is celebrated every year on January 19.
• Hosanna (Palm Sunday): The Feast of Hosanna is celebrated at the beginning of Holy Week.
• The Birth of Our Lady: The Feast of the Birth of our Lady, Saint Virgin Mary, is celebrated every year on May 9.
• Mount Tabor (Transfiguration): The Feast of the Transfiguration of our Lord, when His divine glory was revealed, is celebrated every year on August 20.
All these liturgical practices greatly contribute to strengthening the faith of the faithful, encouraging them to pray regularly, and enabling them to actively participate in their communal life.
We need your help to acquire land and build a permanent Ethiopian Orthodox Tewahedo Church in Tanzania. Your contribution is a blessing.
